Desi may be 11 years old, but he still thinks he's a
three year old, running around in the back yard he
managed to tear his cruciate ligament! Lisa's report
follows:
Wednesday June 13th, 2007
Desi is home from his surgery. He came home in a
bandage from the hip to his toes, on antibiotics and
pain meds, and will be spoiled more than usual for
the next 2 weeks. He has to have the bandage
changed in 5 days and the staples removed in 10
days. He is doing relatively well considering all. They
found that although technically he had a partial tear
of the cruciate, the vet, Dr. Heather, would call it a
full tear as there was only a small thread of ligament
holding it all together and it would not have healed
on its own. She thinks he should recover well with
little or (with some luck) no limp in that leg. He isn't
feeling the best tonight and has a slight fever of
103.2, but I am not worrying too much about that as
the pain meds should be starting to wear off and pain
can cause his temp to rise slightly. He can't have any
more pain med till at least 9:00am, as they gave him a
very strong injectable one right after his surgery this
afternoon and more would be too dangerous until
this dose has worn off. I will check his temp again in
the morning and see if there is any change. He is
sleeping peacefully in his Xtra large crate now as I
write this, with an extra blankie to keep him warm.
